Our group of travelling seniors played here as guests on 3-24-10, a bright and sunny day, but cool and very windy.

The Chambersburg Country Club golf course is quite old, opening in 1921, and it is truly "traditional" in every way. It is also pretty tough, with a slope of 129 from the White tees. Fairways are fairly narrow and lined with mature trees. Water on a number of holes, especially on the back nine. Some greens have been redone (and enlarged), and several are quite heavily contoured. Conditions were outstanding, especially for this time of year. Greens were very quick and true, fairways were lush, but the bunkers (and there are a lot of them!) were still in winter shape.

There are no cart paths on the course, so finding your way from green to tee can be a challenge. Further, since "the season" is not yet officially open, the staff had not yet replaced the tee box signs indicating hole number, yardages, etc. Two of our groups were with a member, so we got around OK, but our third group went astray, and had some adventures getting back on track. Also, distance markings are a little hard to find in some places.

The clubhouse is full-featured and very nice, as befits a CC, and the staff we encountered was excellent. All in all, a very nice golfing experience. The club is working hard to attract and retain members, but public play is available. Recommend calling ahead and see what kind of a deal is current. Very much worth a visit.

Would travel: 30-60 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Better than average course for the area, Ranks with the best in this price level
